Why are roofs flat instead of curved?

■ Inspired by the local topography and remembering the curved protractors from high school drafting classes, I designed a studio with a curved roof, mimicking the shape of the surrounding hills. Many local builders told me it could not be done, which only stiffened my resolve to build the studio. Using the setting of the mountains of eastern West Virginia, the studio does provide an environment for creative design and quality craftsmanship.
